Well everybody, as always I have been keeping myself pretty busy and along with the apparent theme of the year, been doing lots of traveling. Last week Sophia and I spent some time hanging out with our buds in Vegas and the week before that I had the pleasure of spending a day with Amanda Cutler of Pumpkin Pie Photography and Kristen Mackey of Son Kissed Photography at the Sleepy Baby Tulsa Workshop. I had a great experience and came back with new tricks up my sleeve and lots of great photos to share!
Lemme just start by saying, I really think attending workshops is a must-do for all photographers. It is a way to boost your skills and chat with other professionals. I also firmly believe that with photography (and all aspects of your life), that if you aren’t constantly working towards getting better you are actually becoming worse.
As for my experience with the Sleepy Baby, I am 100 percent satisfied! Amanda and Kristen were great! They both were completely open so I asked as many questions as I could think of through the course of the one-day workshop. Several topics were covered from props to post-processing. But my main reason for attending was to see first hand how great newborn photographers like the two of them, get babies into such perfectly cute poses. I have read a lot of tips and tricks, but seeing them in action was just what I needed. I now feel fully equipped to begin offering newborn sessions to my clients.
So…. yeah, I said it. I am now offering newborn sessions! I know I have done a few for friends and family here and there, but now I am offering this service to anyone. “Why just Newborns and Weddings?” you may ask. And to answer: “because I like them.” First I think you should do what you love and I love sweet and sentimental moments. (Probably why I watch way more romantic comedies than Paul can possibly stand) I love spending a little more time with my clients, getting to know them, and producing a product that is intended to cover a huge space on their walls for years and years. I love that the pictures I take can be connected with strong beautiful emotions. A few weeks ago a client called me to say that the pictures I took from her wedding made her cry! Best. Compliment. Ever.
We had two sweet little babies at the workshop a boy and a girl. Here are those “sleepy babies” sleepy pictures:
Please tell me what you think! Do you like the idea of JFP expanding into the realm of babies?
