“O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?”
~Percy Bysshe Shelley
I know that that quote may seem like the worst lead in to a wedding blog post in the history of wedding blog posts but let me explain. It’s a beautiful story really. Sometimes even though you may have done everything right, life doesn’t go how you may have expected. And winter hits. And life becomes challenging and hard. But there is always hope for the happiness you deserve and that’s Kerbie and Nick’s story.
When Kerbie called to tell me about their wedding plans she told me this story about a red-bud tree. In third grade she and her twin sister brought home starter red-bud trees for arbor day. It was fun but she was pretty upset when she saw her sister had come home with a flourishing little branch (two branches were growing off the starter) to plant and hers was only a skinny little twig. It was unfair and she didn’t think her tree stood a chance. Regardless, with the help of their grandfather, Kerbie and Kellie planted their trees in the yard. Now more than twenty years later, Kellie’s tree isn’t around and Kerbie’s little twig is a strong and gorgeous red-bud. It proudly stands in the front yard of her childhood home.
She’s thought of this red-bud tree as a metaphor for her life, which has had it’s rough and weak parts. But earlier this month there she and Nick stood with their children by their sides, in the shade of this perfect, blossoming tree making their vows to each other. Like this red-bud, they have found their spring. And I couldn’t be happier for them. This may be the second time around but it is the best and most beautiful of love stories. Many blessings to you both and your wonderful family!
